Brittney L. Barnes serves as the School Counselor at Darrow and is now in their second year at the school. Since earning their bachelor’s degree in 2014, Brittney has dedicated their career to education, discovering early on the profound need for student guidance in areas beyond academics. Inspired by this realization, Brittney became captivated by the role of a school counselor, where they could provide support in social-emotional development, mental health, career planning, and academic achievement. Their intuitive nature and training in psychology have been invaluable in this work.

After committing to the field, Brittney pursued and earned a master’s degree in School Counseling and has worked passionately ever since. Their professional experience includes roles at Capital Region BOCES, Catapult Learning, and local public schools, where they developed a deep understanding of student needs and cultivated their counseling expertise.

In the summer of 2022, Brittney was drawn to Darrow after receiving an opportunity from the school’s human resources team. Following an interview where they felt an immediate connection to Darrow’s vibrant and welcoming community, Brittney joined the team with enthusiasm. They thoroughly enjoy their role in the health center and are deeply committed to listening to and supporting students as they navigate their own paths to success. Brittney is honored to be part of the Darrow family and is excited to continue making a positive impact in the lives of students.
