Recreation & Wellness
A healthy mind and body are essential to making the most of your Darrow experience, so we offer several resources to support our student's health and wellness.
Wickersham Health Center
At Darrow, we go beyond the traditional school nurse’s office by offering a comprehensive Health Center dedicated to student well-being. Our center provides on-site primary care services, evaluation and treatment for illnesses and injuries, daily medication management, limited laboratory services, specialty care coordination, counseling, and athletic training.
At least one Licensed Nurse staffs the Health Center from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on weekdays and 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM on weekends, with a School Counselor available on weekdays. Additionally, a Licensed Nurse is on-call 24/7 for consultation while school is in session.
Our School Medical Provider, a Board-Certified Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, visits once a week to see students and is available daily for consultation with the Health Center staff. A full-time Athletic Trainer supports student-athletes and is present at all on-campus competitive sporting events.
The School Counselor, based in the Health Center, provides support to students and helps promote overall well-being. Counseling services include individual and group support, health education, and referrals to private mental health providers either locally or virtually. Please note: Therapeutic mental health or psychiatric services are not offered by the Health Center or any Darrow School staff member.
Having Fun and Staying Fit
Participation in afternoon sports is a part of every Darrow student's educational experience and provides an opportunity for recreation. Get in shape at the Dairy Barn Fitness Center. Here, you'll find all the machines and free weights you need. Additionally, optional weekend activities—yoga, meditation, snowboarding, rock climbing, and hikes—are scheduled to reduce stress and promote wellness.
Wellness Education
Over the academic year, we dedicate multiple programs to teenagers of different ages and grade levels—discussions on topics such as alcohol and substance abuse awareness, eating disorders, sexual health, healthy relationships, and social media impact are covered.
Peer-to-peer educators facilitate health and wellness issues by answering questions and directing students to appropriate resources where they will benefit from additional support.
