Biography

Sarina Bachleitner serves as a valued member of the Darrow faculty in her first year. A prodigious talent from a young age, Ms. Bachleitner was awarded The Metropolitan Opera Guild Composers Award at the age of 16, which led to the commissioning of an operetta that aired alongside an interview with her on PBS. Her early success set the foundation for a remarkable career in the arts.

Ms. Bachleitner has made significant contributions to the world of music and education. She founded and directed the Jazz Apprenticeship Program at Jazz at Lincoln Center, a groundbreaking initiative that ran successfully for 17 years. Additionally, she played a key role in launching the committee responsible for the Discover Jazz Festival in Burlington, Vermont.

As a performer, Ms. Bachleitner’s artistry has brought her to the stage with legendary musicians, including Quincy Jones, Clark Terry, Anthony Braxton, Pat LaBarbara, Tom Jones, The Harper Brothers, Mo Holmes and the Pioneers, and The Glenn Miller Orchestra, among others. Her performances reflect both technical mastery and a deep passion for her craft.

In 2017, Ms. Bachleitner was commissioned to compose for the King of Thailand and received the University of North Texas Music Entrepreneurship Award for her innovative contributions to jazz programming. Her dedication to music and education continues to inspire students and audiences alike.
