Biography

Edwin Seldon (Van) graduated from the Darrow class of 1960. Van received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Arizona and his Masters from the University of Wisconsin.

Van's journey at Darrow began in 1956 as a 9th grader, where he was initially classified as a 'slow learner.' Today, he would have been diagnosed with dyslexia. His four years at Darrow, however, laid a strong foundation for his life, particularly in overcoming this challenge. The education and values instilled in him by Darrow have not just influenced but profoundly shaped his character and career.

After completing his military service, graduate school, and marriage, he settled in Connecticut. Over the past 25 years, he has had a diverse career, including serving in senior management positions for three governors, being a New Haven alderman, working as an economic development commissioner for a mid-sized city, serving as the CEO of the Tweed-New Haven Airport Authority, and establishing and managing his own consulting business. He has also been involved with numerous non-profit and public boards and commissions, including serving as the Secretary of the Connecticut Hospice. The values instilled in him by Darrow School over 65 years ago still strongly influence him and have shaped who he is today. Becoming a Trustee has allowed him to complete his Darrow circle, which is genuinely one of the greatest honors of his life—shaped his character and career.
