    Lacrosse vs. Marvelwood (away)

The Darrow lacrosse team played hard from opening whistle to closing horn, but fell short on the road against Marvelwood by a final score of 4-13. Major kudos go to junior co-captain and goalkeeper Jared who, due to the SAT exam, had only five minutes of warm-up time before joining the fray. As always, Jared acquitted himself with intensity, composure, and athleticism, making several clutch saves and initiating both passing and running clears that led to exciting offensive opportunities for the team. Darrow's defense put up a staunch resistance, working hard to contain Marvelwood’s two leading offensive players, and generated multiple turnovers. On the offensive end of the field, it was a banner day for sophomore attackman Charley, who scored all four of Darrow's goals and earned well-deserved recognition with the game ball for the day. In this game Charley again displayed a combination of skillful stickwork, astute positioning, and hard-nosed play around the Marvelwood goal. As in previous games this season, numerous Darrow players moved between positions during the game, demonstrating the mental flexibility and on-field versatility that the team has developed as part of its game strategy. Darrow Lacrosse now begins preparations for an intense final week of the season, with five games in one week, including the start of post-season play.

    Lacrosse vs. Storm King (away)

Playing with a reduced bench, the Darrow lacrosse team nonetheless put up a spirited battle against Storm King on the road, gaining momentum and confidence as the game progressed but running out of time to the tune of a 6-9 final score. Darrow players who found the back of the Storm King net included junior co-captain and (in this game) midfielder Jared with three goals, sophomore midfielder Jasper with two, and junior attackman Brennan with one. Darrow succeeded in tripling its goal production over its first game with Storm King, while only allowing one additional Storm King goal. On the back line, kudos go to rookie defensemen Calvin '20 and Matthew '22, who played almost the entire game and acquitted themselves well. In recognition of his first ever start in goal, his first complete game, and an excellent performance making stops, guiding the defense, and clearing saved shots, the game ball for today went to freshman goalkeeper and midfielder KD. The team now shifts gear to preparing to host Woodhall for a return match, hoping that its continuing improvement and intensity will pay off with a closely contested game.

    Lacrosse vs. Kildonan (away)

The Darrow lacrosse team closed out the 2019 season on a high note, defeating the visiting Kildonan Kodiaks by a score of 8-4. In addition to a strong overall team performance, this game featured a number of noteworthy individual highlights. Senior midfielder Golan, in his rookie year playing lacrosse, scored his first two goals of the season, and came close to making it a hat trick. Junior defenseman Jeffrey, playing part of the game at attack, scored his first goal of the season as well. Sophomore attackman Charley, the team's leading scorer, added two goals to his tally for the season, including a beautiful behind-the-back goal. Scoring from their midfield positions, co-captains Geoffrey '19 and Jared '20 both notched goals, as did Axel '22. Junior defenseman Calvin had a standout game, earning the final game ball of the season for the intensity and determination he displayed on the back line. Calvin executed his single best defensive play of the season, scooping up a ground ball in front of the Darrow goal, dodging through several Kildonan players to open space, and making a perfect, laser-like clearing pass to his teammate on attack. Kudos to freshman midfielder and goalkeeper KD on his second start and second full game in goal. KD again handled himself with confidence and composure between the pipes, displaying continuing improvement in his ability to stop shots, clear the ball, and motivate his defensive unit. Senior attackman Mark had his best game of the season, playing alertly and aggressively, and creating multiple shot opportunities. All in all, this game effectively showcased the growth and improvement that was achieved this season on an individual basis and by the team as a whole, laying the groundwork for a strong start to the 2020 season.
