Girls Basketball

In addition to learning the movement, hard work, and flow of the game itself, Darrow girls learn that there is strength in the team spirit they create. Known through the years as a competitive team, the girls have a tight community. Regardless of a previous experience, girls are welcome to the team and form bonds based on shared work, and shared rewards.

    Girls Basketball vs. PDS (away)

Darrow Women's Basketball opened the 2019 portion of the season with an exciting 50-46 win at Poughkeepsie Day School. DWB started out quite sluggish and quickly found themselves down by 21 points as turnovers and hot shooting by the hosts resulted in the large deficit. Darrow steadied and slowly climbed back into the game, narrowing the gap to 6 points by halftime. The divide grew to 9 points early in the second half before Darrow, led by senior captains Tyler and Crystal, and with valuable bench contributions by sophomore Sakina and freshman Jada, pushed the tempo, took the lead and then played the final, taut minute perfectly to gain the win. Tyler posted a career high 26 points, including 9 of 10 from the free throw line, and completed 5 steals and had 2 assists. Crystal added 18 points, including 2 3-pointers, pulled down a game high 14 rebounds and had 3 assists. Sakina scored two crucial baskets in the second half and grabbed 8 rebounds. Jada scored her first Darrow basket, snagged 5 boards and added a steal. Junior guard Corinne made her first Darrow start, completed 2 steals and fed Sakina on a beautiful combination for an assist. Senior forward Naomi continued her steady play, filling the #4 or #5 position, as the game situation required, and, in doing so, played her longest minutes of the season. The win was the largest comeback victory for Darrow in the last 21 years. DWB hits the road again tomorrow for a non-league contest at Emma Willard.

On the second day of a road back-to-back, Darrow Women's Basketball came out strong in the second half, extending a 3-point halftime lead to a final 27-point win over Emma Willard (JV) in Troy, NY. All fourteen Darrow players saw extensive minutes on the court. Senior co-captain center Leah played a strong game, tallying 4 points and nabbing 6 rebounds, while anchoring the defense in the paint. Senior forward Naomi continued her steady play, sinking her first basket of the still-young season. Junior guard Corinne added 4 points, 5 rebounds and completed a nice assist. Her diving flip ahead of a daring steal to senior co-captain forward Tyler (13 pts, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and a block), who converted the layup, was the highlight-reel play-of-the-day. Senior co-captain guard Crystal posted a 14/4/1 day while leading the Darrow defense with 6 steals. First year center Abena scored her first Darrow basket. Junior guards Rianna and Kylah were tasked with leading the group that closed out the win on the floor. Darrow travels to New York Military on Saturday.
